What is the best time of the year to diet and why?

Spring and early summer are optimal for starting a diet. Here's why:

Natural daylight increases during spring, boosting vitamin D production and mood.

A better mood means better diet adherence.

Seasonal produce becomes more abundant and affordable. Fresh fruits and vegetables make healthy eating easier and more enjoyable.

Warmer weather encourages outdoor activity. More natural movement means more calories burned without extra effort.

Spring's moderate temperatures are ideal for outdoor exercise. Not too hot, not too cold - perfect for starting a new fitness routine.

Fewer social events compared to summer and winter holidays. Less social pressure means fewer temptations to break your diet.

Psychological factors align well in spring. The season's natural association with renewal and fresh starts supports motivation.

Summer clothes motivation kicks in naturally. The prospect of beach season provides realistic, time-bound goals.

Sleep patterns tend to improve with natural light cycles. Better sleep supports better dietary choices and metabolism.

Spring allergies are the main challenge, but can be managed with proper planning and medication if needed.

This timing gives you a solid foundation before summer social events begin.

Remember, the absolute best time to start is when you're mentally ready, regardless of season. But spring offers natural advantages worth considering.

Article of the Week

Article Explained Simple: What does microplastic do to our bodies?

The study revealed concerning effects of microplastic exposure on human health.

Microplastics can accumulate in various organs, potentially causing inflammation and cell damage.

The particles can cross the blood-brain barrier and may affect neurological function.

Research shows microplastics can disrupt hormonal systems and potentially affect fertility.

The study found that smaller particles (nanoplastics) pose greater risks as they can enter cells directly.

Fascinating Fact:

We consume approximately 5 grams of plastic every week - equivalent to eating a credit card!

3 Tips to minimize ingesting microplastic

Reduce microplastic exposure with these practical strategies:

  1. Filter your Water

Use a high-quality water filter certified to remove microplastics.

    Avoid plastic water bottles.

Opt for glass or stainless steel containers.

Consider a whole-house filtration system if possible.

  2. Choose fresh, unpackaged food

Minimize packaged foods, especially those in plastic.

Buy fresh produce without plastic wrapping.

    Store food in glass containers.

Avoid heating food in plastic containers.

  3. Avoid synthetic fibres

Choose natural fibres like cotton and wool.

Synthetic clothes release microplastics during washing.

Use a washing machine filter to catch microfibers.

Air dry clothes when possible to reduce fibre breakdown.
